HOS Year in Review
The 2020-2021 school year will be remembered for rekindling our return to normalcy and a time to reflect on those aspects that are important in our lives. Knowing that in-school, in-person instruction is optimal for the health and well-being of children, Fisher Island Day School (FIDS) made the bold decision to fully re-open our doors on August 24, 2020. This decision was never regretted. Although it was not entirely business as usual due to COVID-19, it was nonetheless heartwarming to have our family back together under one roof. We missed the joys of companionship, comradery, and collegiality, which were never fully realized in virtual environs. We are, once again, FAMILY!
Speaking of roofs, FIDS’s roof doubled in size this year, thanks to our ambitious expansion project, which is nearing the finish line. When we open our doors in the fall, we will benefit from the addition of a full-sized gymnasium, a commercial kitchen, additional classroom and office space, an art/music studio, and additional parking. The added space could not come soon enough as FIDS continues to experience unprecedented enrollment growth, as well as the expansion of grades to include a full middle school. Our expanded facility will enable FIDS to soar even higher. We thank you for your patience as the reward is near.
FIDS’s extracurricular programming took another big leap forward in 2020-2021 with the return of fan favorites, along with several new offerings, such as La Crosse, Snapology (robotics), the Flying Classroom (STEM), Sky Beat Hip Hop Dance, and LADD Circus (acrobatics). The learning—and fun—never ceases at FIDS.
Due to social-distancing constraints and the need to keep our community safe, many of FIDS’s bells and whistles were silenced this year, such as book fairs, field trips, guest artists and speakers, and sports matches. The school year commenced with an abundance of caution and protocols, which have begun to gradually ebb as we re-emerge, post pandemic. Most notably, FIDS will be mask-optional commencing with the start of summer camp on June 7, 2021. We look forward to the full resumption of extracurricular activities in the coming school year.
With the aforementioned accomplishments and plans for more exciting opportunities next year, FIDS continues to be the vanguard of innovative education. We thank the students, faculty, staff, and the entire FIDS community for their support in making—despite the odds—2020-2021 a successful school year! Whether you are new to or a veteran of Fisher Island Day School, we appreciate that you entrust your most precious asset(s) to our care.
FIDS’ Summer Camp
FIDS is pleased to offer a six-week, “mask-optional” day camp this summer, commencing on Monday, June 7, 2021, and concluding on Friday, July 16, 2021. A minimum of one week is required to register for Summer Camp. Please note that enrollment is limited. We ask that our FIDS stakeholders register as soon as possible to ensure that they can be accommodated within the camp’s capacity. Click here to register through our online “touchless” system.
