Does FIDS accept off-island students?
While the majority of students are Fisher Island residents, a limited number of qualified applicants from the surrounding communities are also accepted.

What are your application deadlines?
The deadline to submit an application for the subsequent school year is January 15th. We strongly recommend that all applications be submitted in advance of the application deadline. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and acceptance will only be offered to a qualified applicant if space becomes available.

What are the hours for the school day?
Early Learning: 8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (half-day)
All other grades: 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Is there before- and after-care?
The Fisher Island Day School does not provide a traditional before- and after-care service. However, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m, there are a variety of sports and activities offered in which many students may choose to enroll. (Additional fees apply.) In addition, Fisher Island Day School offers—at no charge— after-school Study Hall to students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Study Hall is a teacher-chaperoned space where students can complete their homework or engage in free-time reading.

How diverse is your student body?
The Fisher Island Day School represents an extremely international and culturally diverse community. Our students hail from over fifteen different countries and speak a variety of languages with fluency. Although many of our students speak multiple languages, instruction at Fisher Island Day School is delivered in English. As such, fluency in English is an admissions criteria.

What are the criteria for admissions to Fisher Island Day School?
As FIDS upholds academic standards higher than those found at other local schools, the admissions committee seeks to identify students who have the ability to succeed at FIDS. We accept students with high academic standings based on teacher recommendations, prior school grades, standardized test scores, and other data. An on-site visit is also a prerequisite for admission. During the on-site visit, teachers will make further determinations regarding the applicant’s academic and social-emotional potential. Those students demonstrate strength in a variety of areas show commitment to learning, and exhibit the respect necessary for building a strong community.

What are your application requirements?
In order to apply, all students will need to submit a written application and be interviewed. Older students will also need to provide teacher recommendations and transcripts and take part in a testing program. A birth certificate or visa is also a requirement.

Is FIDS authorized to enroll F or M nonimmigrant students?
Fisher Island Day School is certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to enroll F or M nonimmigrant students. Additional processing fees apply.

Do FIDS students wear uniforms?
Yes, even the youngest students wear uniforms.
